The Indian Constitution changed the Act of 1935 and established itself as the governing document of India. This day has been declared as a national holiday by the Indian government. The outline of the new Indian constitution was prepared and approved by the Constituent Assembly of India and it was announced to celebrate it on 26 January every year in the joy of India becoming a democratic country.

History of Republic Day

After independence, a drafting committee was asked to prepare a draft of the permanent constitution of India at a meeting on 28 August 1947. On 4 November 1947, the draft of the Constitution of India was placed in the House under the chairmanship of Dr. BR Ambedkar. The constitution was prepared in 2 years, 11 months and 18 days. The wait finally ended with its introduction on 26 January 1950. At the same time, the pledge of Purna Swaraj was also respected.

Reason to Celebrate Republic Day

Even after the independence of India, the constitution of any other country was applicable to India. But some great people of the country realized that it is very important for the country to have its own constitution. Therefore, under the supervision of some great scholars, India’s own constitution was written and implemented from 26 January 1950.

Apart from this, there is another history of this day, which is known by very few people, on this day, at the session of the Indian National Congress in Lahore, it was announced by the Congress under the chairmanship of Pandit Nehru that if by 26 January 1930 If India is not made an autonomous regime i.e. a Dominion State, then after this India will consider itself completely independent.

However, when this day came and no response was given by the English government on this issue, Congress started its active movement with the goal of achieving complete independence from that day. This is the reason that when our country became independent, the day of 26 January was elected to establish the Constitution. And then this day was also elected for Republic Day.
